Desert Dweller

Another thing I will miss about California:  the desert.  And here I am about to confess something that I hope will cause you to check your closets before sleeping tonight:  I AM ONE OF THE DESERT PEOPLE.  I love the desert.  The place so eerily desolate yet alive, so welcoming to snakes and ugly people, the place where this guy, or this one, could appear in your living room recliner at any moment, and turn you into this.

My grandma used to live in Bullhead City, AZ.  I never told anyone, because my sisters might have encouraged it and my mother might have been frightened, but I REALLY WANTED to go live with gramma Mimi, because she lived in the desert, where the dry air was an endless stream of good hair days, where plush fur carseat covers were A MUST, and also because I liked the smell of her cigarette-encrusted furniture.  I found it exotic.  See? -- desert person.
