War Class

Friday, November 12, 2010 Below is a letter I sent along with a signed petition to my three California representatives in the House and Senate, reminding them that 97% of America is in favor of allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire. If they're not, then they've been confused by someone, because handing cash to the wealthy does not help everyone else, much as the top 3% would like us to believe otherwise. If you would like to sign the same petition, it is here, and I urge you to take a mo' and BRING IT.
This clip from The Colbert Report is as apt a summation of "trickle down economics" as there ever was. Sometimes you will get an amusingly and ironically placed ad for Chase Bank before the clip; apparently, they're not evil, they're the nicest most socially conscientious business on the planet. Phew!

Dear "The Congress,"
Please remember you are public servants, tasked with representing the people. I know that the wealthiest Americans are people too, but there are more of us than there are of them.
I am proud of those Americans who have either struggled to the top of the financial heap, or fell there straight out of their mothers' vaginas. Surely their lot in life is no grander or more meaningful than that of a dying orphan in South Carolina. We, Americans, simply feel that they are obligated to pay the same percentage of taxes that everybody else does. A good first step is ALLOWING THE "BUSH TAX CUTS" TO EXPIRE.
Thank you,

Oh well.
We'll try again.
Again.
2012! Maybe actually taxing the rich fairly is what the Mayans predicted would really end the world.
If that were true, I'd still be in favor of it.
